TELL Course Topic 3 : Technology & Listening

This is our first online lecture because the Corona virus pandemic which caused face-to-face lectures must be stopped. In the first topic in this online lecture we discussed Technology and Listening with Mr. Dedy Kurniawan, to convey the material, the lecturer used an existing e-learning site e-learning.english.unja.ac.id by giving videos from YouTube to help our understanding of the material being taught, after that there were some questions that had to be answered to find out how we understood the information conveyed through video the.

This video gives some examples of technology in the form of websites from the internet that can be used by teachers to teach listening skills to their students, among these websites are :
  1. Voice of America

Voice of America : This website provides some news or articles that students can listen to to improve their listening skills.

       2. ESL Lab
ESL Lab is an Internet site that is focused on providing free listening materials. The materials are categorized by difficulty level, so they can be used in a variety of classrooms.

     3. Many Things
manythings.org : This website has many things. It has resources for all of the different English skills. This website is particularly useful for EFL teachers because it provides audio files with different English accents. There are audio files with extemporaneous speech, which provides good, authentic input. There are also audio files that are just recorded readings, like this one here that has spoken passages of Wikipedia entries. All of these audio files are accompanied by transcripts.

On this topic also Mr. Dedy Kurniawan gave us the task of making a Listening plan, and you can download my Listeing Plan by clicking this link : Listening Unit Plan .
