TELL Course Topic 4 : Technology & Speaking

This is the second topic that we language through this online lecture which is about Techology and Speaking and there are several videos we have to watch to help our understanding of this material.

In this video some examples of websites are given that can help students improve their speaking ability, one of which is a website that can be used to improve students' pronunciation when speaking this website is called Youglish.com

YouGlish.com is a website that you can find on the Internet that allows students to type in something that they would like say but don’t know how to pronounce. They can type it in and the website will find some examples or video where people are saying that exact expression.
There are also websites that allow people to have indirect conversations using websites or video call applications, one of the examples of applications is Skype.

So just like the telephone was an amazing tool of the past, the Internet with applications like Skype, is the amazing application of the current day. Students cannot only speak to each other, but they can see each other in face-to-face communication via distance.

There are several reasons that make Speaking skills very important :
  • Speaking is the basis of oral language.
  • People get things done every day by speaking.
  • People establish and maintain relationships with others by speaking.
  • People notice the pronunciation of the people they are communicating with.
  • Our speaking does something to mark who we are, it expresses our identity in everyday face-to-face communication.
